Seminole
Virginia (Goggin) Riecker, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, 2023.
She was born in Queens, NY and moved to Seminole, FL in 1978 from Bay Shore, NY.
After 25 years of service, Ginny retired from Interstate Bakery Corporation in 2007.
Ginny enjoyed life and had many interests, including a passion for sports. Growing up in
Belle Harbor, NY, she was a diehard Brooklyn Dodgers fan and after moving to Florida,
became an original super fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a Tampa Bay Rays
season ticket holder. She served as Coach in the inaugural 1974 Bay Shore/Brightwaters
Girls' Little League Softball program. A strong swimmer, Ginny enjoyed spending
summers with her family on the beaches of Rockaway, NY. Ginny was musically gifted
with the ability to sing three-part harmony. Her love of artists like Ray Charles, Johnny
Cash, George Strait, Sarah Vaughan, and Barbra Streisand reflects her broad musical
tastes. She loved attending Broadway musicals like The Phantom of the Opera, Les
Miserables, and The Jersey Boys. She enjoyed photography and chronicled her families'
growth through an artistic lens while capturing moments small and large in their lives.
An avid gardener, Ginny took pride in and spent hours cultivating the many shrubs,
trees, and plantings around her home. She especially relished the beauty of ornamental
vines like bougainvilla and allamande and enjoyed the fragrant scent from her treasured
gardenia bush. She was proud of her Irish heritage and travelled to Ireland to visit the
birthplaces of her family in County Mayo and County Cork. As a native New Yorker,
Ginny savored the varied cuisines available in the five boroughs especially Italian,
Chinese, German, and Jewish food traditions. Ginny possessed a sharp wit and
mischievous sense of humor. All who knew her enjoyed her easy-going, loving nature.
Ginny attended St. Francis De Sales Catholic Academy in Belle Harbor, NY and
graduated from St. Agnes Seminary in Brooklyn, NY where she excelled in French. She
is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles T. Riecker, Jr. and survived by her
brother, Bob Goggin and wife Peggy, sons David A. Wightman, Jr., Christopher P.
