Phyllis N.
Kienzle
Oct 8, 1925 — Dec 1, 2018
Largo
Phyllis Kienzle passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, in Pinellas Park, Florida at the age of 93. Born
in Newark, NJ on October 8th, to the late Charles and Maybelle (McClelland) Sambach; she attended the
nation's first magnet school, Arts High School, where she studied art and music. Working at a local
business in 1949 and pursuing a music career, she met the love of her life, Charles Kienzle of Irvington,
NJ. After marrying they moved to Lincroft, NJ and raised their family. Phyllis was a bookkeeper at Jersey
Marine (Red Bank, NJ) until her relocation to Pinellas County in 1980.
She was a founding member and past president of the Suncoast Sandpipers and a member of various
organizations including the Monmouth Chorus, Lincroft Women's Club, and Marine Corps Auxiliary.
Phyllis was an avid reader and bridge player and enjoyed spending time at the beach.
Upon retirement she and Charlie worked at Neilson on a part time basis in order to fund their extensive
travel. Once Charlie passed, in 2006, she really began to travel, going to Africa on safari and Australia.
Prompting her grandchildren to threaten to produce a reality show starring Phyllis entitled "Philly-K".
She was indeed larger than life, never giving an inch to her age or her need for kidney dialysis during the
last three years. She was a rock star and she will be missed but never forgotten!
She is predeceased by her husband Charles. She is survived by her son Charley Kienzle and wife, Carrie
of Apalachicola, FL; daughter Lisa Baker and husband, Jim of Amelia Island, FL; and daughter, Amy
Connair and husband, Tim of Charlotte, NC. As well as grandchildren, Elizabeth, Timothy, Charles
(Sarah), Laura (Taylor), James (Amara) and Christina and great grandchildren, Seth, Leander, Kate and
Winslow and sister Marilyn Swomley, niece, Kristi Reinholz and nephews, Michael Kienzle, Adam
Swomley, Rich, Robert, Don, John and Tom Lamken.
The family offers a special thanks to the Elmcroft at Pinecrest transportation staff and Dr. Kedar Sheyte,
Tara Lenas and the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care on Starkey Road, Largo.
