January 11, 1930 - October 25, 2025
Phyllis Briggs Dalton of Treasure Island, Florida passed peacefully from this life to the next at the age of 95 on October 25, 2025 in Seminole, Florida.
Born Phyllis Jane Trautman on January 11, 1930 to Leroy B. Trautman and Valena Doubledee Trautman in Buffalo, NY, Phyllis lived a full, active and rewarding life. Losing her father at a young age, her mother remarried to George H. Briggs who adopted Phyllis and her brother Richard. At the age of nine, she took up the violin and played throughout her grade school, high school and college years. After graduating from Kenmore High School, Phyllis attended Bowling Green State University where she majored in Music. She later transferred to Ohio State University and changed her major graduating with a Bachelor of Social Work. Phyllis was a member of the cheerleading team at both universities, as well as an active member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority where she made many lifelong friends.
Phyllis had three children by her ex-husband Richard M. Dalton, Sandy, Scott and Jeff. While raising her family in the Dayton, Ohio area, Phyllis was active in YMCA Women's Club, the Lion's Club and other civic organizations. She returned to her love of music in her mid 40's by earning a violin chair with the Wright State University Orchestra. In the early 1980's, Phyllis moved to Treasure Island, FL where she was a long time member of the Treasure Island Tennis and Yacht Club and where she met some of her dearest friends. Phyllis was an avid tennis player, a member of the Treasure Island Tackers, served on the board of her condominium association and as an ambassador for the Club. She worked for the State of Florida as a case social worker for ten years, impacting the lives of many children and families. In her early 70's, Phyllis began attending Calvary Chapel where she not only reconnected with her faith, but accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and established many new friendships. Phyllis loved her family more than life itself. First growing up with her mother, father, brother and cousins, and then in adulthood with her own children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was her joy to create lasting memories with each family member in her life.
Phyllis is predeceased by her dear brother and friend Richard D. Briggs, and her son Jeffrey Spencer Dalton. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Job-Rivera, her son David Scott Dalton (Chris), four grandchildren Cameron Dalton (Kelly), Jessica Casper (David), Stuart Dalton (Kate), Caroline Filacchione (Tyler), and great grandchildren Morgan and Brooke Dalton, Francie and Hank Filacchione, Dani and Gabi Casper, and Thomas and Lillian Dalton.
