Michael
Milkovich
Feb 13, 1929 — Dec 4, 2019
Largo
Michael "Opa" Milkovich, 90 passed away December 4th, 2019. Formerly of planet Earth, born in the space of Croatia and a worldly traveler of the entire planet, he landed in the Florida area in 1982.
He was the former Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, St.Petersburg, Fla., USA, Earth. Michael traveled the planet often in his passion to put on awesome art shows. The one dearest to him was The fantastical world of Croatian naïve art, 2000, just prior to his retirement after 20 years there. He originally immigrated from Croatia to the USA in 1956, and worked a drill press in a factory to support his family. A true amazement to all who knew him, especially his sons, since his favorite way to fix things always was Scotch tape and Elmer's glue.... and he made it work! He went onto graduate Case Western Reserve with a Master's degree. As a double to former NYC mayor Ed Koch he was often mistaken for him whenever in NYC on business. More than once he confused dog walkers in NYC after being recognized, when he advised them he too was a Dalmatian like their dog. Alas what did people think of their favorite mayor after this encounter?
Those who preceded him in passing include all of those who are no longer around, and his son Peter. Survivors include all those still left, and his sons: Tony (Nancy), Michael, Chris (Christy) and David (Lisa). Grandchildren Joe, Tori, Jon, Michael, Jack and Emma. Niece Neira. Along with special friend and companion Madonna.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made by visiting or supporting your local museum, or your local SPCA.
Visitation service will be held at Mohn Funeral Home, Seminole, Fla., Earth on Saturday December 14th from 1pm to 3pm.
Specialty food of KFC chicken to follow in memory of Michael's life long love of the Colonel's chicken, and a regular visiting spot with his kid's as they grew up. Those of you who prefer wings please BYOW as his life long mission was to avoid wings, "Dammit no Vings", as he would lovingly express to staff if they snuck one in the box, means none will be served. "I am going forward. Be happy for me".
