Obituary

Lamar Sewell Barton,  At the end of the day when the last rays of sun slip beneath the horizon, the world grows dim in its absence and leaves us longing for its warmth once more.
On September 3, 2025, Lamar Sewell Barton passed away peacefully in his sleep at Freedom Square Health Care Center in Seminole, Florida at the age of 86. For those who loved him dearly, and there are many, we know that his kindness and light are shining just beyond the horizon.
Born in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 12, 1938, Lamar was a hard worker throughout his career, earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland by attending night school, while working as a logistics specialist with the Department of Energy during the day. He and his wife Connie retired to St. Petersburg, Florida in 2001.
Lamar found great joy in traveling, counting Alaska and Hawaii among his favorite destinations for their natural beauty. When not cruising to islands or taking in serene landscapes, he enjoyed reading, especially books by Michael Shaara and then those by the writer's son Jeff Shaara. His vices were Coca-Cola and Snickers.
He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of almost 57 years Connie, his son Eric (Tammy), and his dog Mia. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Virginia Barton.
Lamar was a compassionate and generous man throughout his life, supporting nature conservation and animal welfare organizations. Anyone wishing to honor his life and memory is asked to make a charitable donation in his name to the Humane Society of Pinellas County in lieu of flowers.
Lamar will be cremated and his ashes spread by family at the gardens he loved.
