Obituary

Kay E. Weston, of Seminole, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023, at the age of 83. Kay was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Charles Eugene Weston and Pearle Williams Weston. Kay attended Wake Forest College where she was a Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with a Bachelor of Foreign Language Degree. She went from Wake Forest to Duke University where she received her master's degree.
Kay began her teaching career at Richard Bland Community College in Virginia. Five years later she took the opportunity to go to Bucaramanga, Columbia where she taught English for two years to elementary age children. During their summers she traveled all over South America.
One highlight included an alligator hunting trip on the Amazon River! Returning to the United States brought a new adventure. She taught for one year at the College of Wooster in Ohio before being accepted back at Duke to work on her Doctorate Degree.
Kay enjoyed traveling with friends and spent her summers exploring Spain, Greece, and Mexico. On these trips she made many lifelong friends.
Kay was an adventurous young lady with a fondness for animals of any kind. She had a cockatiel named "birdtale" who ruled the roost in Greensboro. She even brought an angora goat back from Texas where she worked one summer with her college roommate. While at Duke she
bought her own horse and rode the trails north of Durham. Unfortunately, she had an accident while riding and sustained a severe head injury. This ended her time at Duke, and she returned to Greensboro to recover. She was able later to volunteer at Greensboro Community College
teaching English to the foreign-born students. She also volunteered at Metropolitan Ministries.
Kay was a loving, kind person with a big heart and would do anything for you. She was even- tempered, sweet, and made many new friends in the neighborhood and community. She eventually moved to Florida to be with her sister, who was a teacher. Kay volunteered in the media center of each school where her sister worked. The students and teachers loved her helpful and supportive nature and her mild manner.
Kay is survived by her sister, Nancy Gail Weston of Seminole, and two nieces, Carol Fisher of Vancouver, Washington, and Judy Maples of Nehalem, Oregon, and their children. She is also survived by many cousins and friends who loved her dearly.
