Obituary

Karen Lea McBride (Porter), age 76, passed away on May 7, 2026. She was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota, and remained a proud Minneapolis Southsider throughout her life.

Karen worked for many years as a beautician and was also known for sewing and doing alterations for friends and neighbors. She loved baking,  quick pasta dishes, taco salads, and gathering people around the table.

She was funny, outspoken, quick-witted, and often the class clown — someone who could make people laugh and bring energy into a room. Karen enjoyed bowling and shared many memories with her daughter, Carla, through their Mom and Me bowling team. She also loved fishing, camping, and spontaneous "up North" weekends with family.

Karen was involved in Girl Scouts while raising both Carla and later helping raise her granddaughter, Ashli. She attended church, volunteered over the years, and stayed connected to the people and community around her.

Karen shared 48 years with her life partner, Jon Melson, who preceded her in death. Together they built a life centered around family, memories, and everyday moments. Her great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Marjorie Porter; brothers Alex and Andrew Porter; sisters Florence, Gwendolyn, Gloria, and Genevieve; and longtime partner Jon Melson.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Carla Summer; grandchildren Ryan Summer and Ashli Bresina; great-grandchildren Madalynn Bresina, Cole Bresina, and Sofia; sisters Patricia Porter and Cheryl Holding Eagle; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins near and far, extended family members, and friends.

A private family remembrance will be held in her honor.
