Jim went to X-ray Tech school in Danville, IL and continued his education at Indiana University. Shortly after attending IU, he moved to Los Angeles, CA, to work for IBM. In 1966 Jim moved back to Crawfordsville, IN. and took over two of his father's businesses. One being Fire Truck Sales and the other, J&D (James and Don) Fire Extinguishers. He married a woman with two young girls, Cathy, and Joanne Hawes.

truck sales along with working for International Harvester. Jim carried his love for fireman throughout life, his father "Elmer" was a prior Chief in Lafayette, IN. He in his own way, always tried to help others just as his father did. During the winter of 77', he pulled sleds full of food through the neighborhoods with his fire truck for people who were snowed in.
In 1985 he moved to Kansas to further pursue the truck sales business, then onto Wisconsin where he met his one true love, Teresa (Larson)
Dickman. They were married in 1987 and had one daughter Calera "Cali" Edith Marie Dickman who was born in Champaign, IL, in 1992.
His Grandmother Edith "Edie" (Ward) Davenport was a very influential person in Jim's life.
Jim was a great business entrepreneur, he and Teresa started a wholesale truck dealership together in Champaign, IL. In 2004 they moved to
Redington Shores, FL, and continued to run the business together for over twenty years. In addition to being a devoted businessman, he was also a devoted father to all 4 of his girls. They grew up attending anything he did, from the Indy 500, Notre Dame games, Colts, Pacers, Tampa Bay Rays games and many more. He and Teresa supported daughter Jayme's shooting competitions and attended them all over the country, she became a USA Olympian in 1996 & 2000, little sister Cali was her biggest fan. Jayme is now a Coach for US Shooting Team athletes. She, and husband Jamie Shipley own an international imports company in Naples, FL to support USA team athletes.
Jim was an avid lover of all sports but a huge Indiana basketball fan! Therefore, he was so proud and excited when his youngest, Cali played
basketball. She competed for Seminole High School, and he didn't miss a game. Again, they traveled the country with her AAU league which
ultimately led her to three national championship tournaments. Cali is now a beloved special education teacher at Azalea Middle School in St.
Petersburg, FL.
Jim was a caring man who loved people and being the jokester; you never knew what he was going to say, but it always made everyone
laugh. Jim had several hobbies, he and wife Teresa did everything together. Hosting cookouts for their friends was one of his favorite things to do,
sporting events, boating, cruises to the Caribbean, horse racing and casino trips to the Hard Rocks with friends. Wherever he was living he
made a point to know the local firemen and donate meals to them during holidays.
A few friends very dear to his heart over the decades were Phil & Liz Slatt, Greg Anastasio, Tom & Norma Heck, Ron & Phyllis Durbin and
Phil Thorton. Jim will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
