Henry F.H.
Vierling
Sep 8, 1931 — Dec 15, 2022
St.Petersburg
Henry F.H. Vierling, age 91, passed away on December 15, 2022. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to German immigrant parents. Living in a German community, he did not learn English until attending kindergarten and remained fluent in German throughout his life. He received his B.S. and Master's degree from Rutgers University in Mechanical Engineering, graduating with honors. Upon graduation, he served as an
officer in the USAF in the area of radar defense of the Atlantic Coast.
Henry's interest in engineering continued into the field of manufacturing plastics for a US based company which merged with a German company, with him being recruited as the technical lead given his German fluency. While this merger necessitated a move from New Jersey to Delaware, the merger introduced him to a colleague, who suggested that the two of them form a home medical supply company in Florida. He moved to Seminole, Florida in 1977, with their first store being located in the Tyrone Square Mall. The business was later sold to Eckerd Drugs, and Henry continued in the home medical supply field until retirement.
Henry was an active Elder in the Presbyterian Church of America for 50 years, serving on various Boards. He was active within his condominium association, and was often helping others with home repairs or overseeing the building maintenance. He enjoyed refinishing furniture with his grandchildren and in his quiet moments remained an avid book reader.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marie Vierling. Henry was married for 67 years and is survived by his wife Caroline, three children, Philip and (Becky) Vierling, Fran Meier, and Cathy and (Robert) Fricke. In addition, they have 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, an encouraging father, and an active grandfather.
A celebration of Life Service will be held at Christ The King Presbyterian Church, 5400 Seminole Blvd, Seminole, Fl 33772, on Saturday January 21, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
