Edward F. Gaughan passed on January 5, 2026 after a beautiful life and short hospitalization. He was 95.
He is survived by his son Kenneth (Linda); daughter Carolyn; three grandchildren Melissa, Michael, and Ashlyn; two great grandsons Michael and Mason; and brother Walter (Patricia). He has many loving family members including nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, daughter Loretta, father Edward G., mother Dorothy (Miller), brother William (Marie), and great grandson Aiden.
Edward was born and raised in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago. He was educated at St. Vincent de Paul Elementary and High Schools. He met his wife Margaret C. Bonefas, the young lady from around the corner on Kenmore Avenue. They were married in 1951 and celebrated their 50th anniversary of wedded bliss before she passed. Edward and Margaret worked hard, trusted God, had fun, and traveled around the globe. They liked to square dance, roller skate, and participate in family and community events.
Edward was a conversationalist with a fun wit and sense of humor. He loved his family. He and his late wife have many wonderful friends, including many from St. Tarcissus Parish in Chicago. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He was a regular and willing community volunteer for several groups.
Edward worked at Republic Steel Corporation on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. He was a sales manager in the Pipe Division for over 30 years. He retired in 1986. Like others in the family, he and his wife Margaret relocated to the sunny Gulf Coast of Florida.
Special thanks to Michael Fischer. Michael supported his grandfather as a devoted caretaker during the final years.
The family acknowledges other family and friends, his church, and heath care providers for precious care, support, and help. In his memory, the family requests prayers, good deeds, and smiles. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
