Obituary

Dorothy Marie Templeton Sanderson age 102, passed away on June 1, 2026. She was born in Washington, D.C. and moved to Seminole, FL from Warwick, RI.

After finishing high school, she became a legal secretary in Miami, FL. She moved back to Washington D.C., married, moved to RI and raised four children. In later years, she was then employed by Clearwater Community Library followed by a ten-year career working with court records at the Pinellas County Courthouse.

Her Catholic faith was an important part of her everyday life, and she regularly attended mass at Blessed Sacrament in Seminole, FL.

She was a member of numerous bowling leagues, Suncoast Junior Women's Club, canvassed the neighborhood for the American Heart and Cancer Associations, and volunteered as a poll worker for elections.

An avid boater, her perfect weekend consisted of traveling the intercoastal waterway, dropping anchor at a nearby island, and spending the night with family and friends. She loved to travel and visited every state but North Dakota while also touring Europe and South America.

Dot opened her home to relatives recovering from loss, a broken heart, or the need to experience a stable family environment. Her friendships were long-lasting and included lots of girl trips to Sarasota to see the sights and likely included a little bit of partying. One of the Sarasota stories she could share involved jumping on the bed and coming home with a broken toe. Her desire to enjoy life and see the best in everyone she knew will be missed.

She was preceded in death by: William L. Sanderson (husband), Dennis M. Sanderson (son), and

Susan M. Sanderson (daughter).

She is survived by: William Sanderson (son) and wife Catherine of Williamsburg, VA, Terry Sanderson (daughter) of Seminole, FL; granddaughters: Kathleen Sanderson and husband David Sunshine of Henrico, VA, Amanda Sanderson and husband Mark Phelan of Leesburg, VA, Rebecca Sanderson and husband Michael Emmons of Chesterfield, VA, grandsons: Stefan Schaefer of Seminole, FL and Ronald Stocker and wife Bridgett of Largo, FL; and five great grandchildren. Remarkably, she attended every graduation and wedding for her grandchildren. Graveside service will be held on June 15, 2026, at 1 PM, Serenity Gardens, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL.
