Obituary

David Lee Jackson, age 87, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017. He was born in Canton, Ohio in 1929. He and his family moved to the Largo area in 1986.
David worked as an estimator for Pelican Electric since 2000. He said this job was one of the most pleasant he had in his long professional life. He considered it an honor to work for such nice people.

After serving in the United States Army, he graduated from Ohio Northern University (BS) and later Stanford University (MS) in civil engineering. He pursued two careers in infrastructure construction, one for building new banana plantations in Costa Rica and pineapple plantations in the Philippines and the other in the U.S. Dept. of Energy nuclear facilities in Portsmouth, Ohio, and in Largo, Florida. He also worked on a contract for the Department of Defense running the Public Works department in Rota, Mariana Islands. He loved travel, music, and singing in his church choir. In addition to spending time with his loving wife, David enjoyed going to the symphony at the Mahaffey Theater, working in his backyard, visiting his children and brother out of town and taking small trips to explore the United States.
David was preceded in death by his son, Mario Jackson; his parents, Martin S. Jackson and D. Ottole Walker and his sister, Shirley Barker. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maria Virginia Jackson, as well as his daughters, Elizabeth Burton and Elaine Mann, and his sons, Wayne Jackson and David Jackson. He leaves two sons-in-law, Bryan Burton and Tim Mann; one daughter-in-law, Lynette Jackson; and five grandchildren, Isaac Burton, Molly Jackson, Hannah Jackson, Sarah Mann, and Phoebe Mann. Other survivors are his younger brother, Edward Jackson, and his wife Patricia Jackson.
