In Loving Memory of David Todd Charles
David Todd Charles, age 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Clearwater, Florida, on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Born in Grundy, Virginia, on February 28, 1967, David was raised in a proud military family and grew up as an "Army Brat" on Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Benning, Georgia; and Fort Dix, New Jersey.
David was an accomplished athlete in his younger years, playing baseball as a pitcher and football on both the offensive and defensive lines. He also loved the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, and spending time in St. Augustine with his beloved wife, Pamela.
David's greatest passion was automobiles. He built a career as a professional Auto Paint Repair Specialist, working on everything from sports and race cars to big rigs. A true perfectionist, he took great pride in his work and was known for doing everything with care and precision.
He also had a lifelong love of racing. He followed NASCAR, especially Tony "Smoke" Stewart and Kyle Larson, and followed in his father's footsteps by participating in dirt-track racing in Georgia and Virginia. His three-foot racing trophy remained one of his prized possessions.
David and Pamela were married in Las Vegas on August 12, 2012. They moved from Atlanta to Tarpon Springs in 2013 before settling in Clearwater, where they embraced Florida's "Salt Life." David was a devoted Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning fan and was also known for his quick wit and ability to make people laugh with jokes about everyday life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Sergeant Major (Retired) Glen Charles and Sharon Charles.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela; daughter Jessica and her husband Jake; four stepchildren; 14 grandchildren, who were the light of his life; brothers Michael Charles and Army First Sergeant (Retired) Robert Charles and his wife Georgina; and several nieces and nephews.
David will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His love of family, cars, racing, the outdoors, and laughter will live on through the many memories he leaves behind.
