Carolyn Lou Wimpee (nee Hess) died November 6th at the age of 91. She was born in Mobley, West Virginia and met her husband, Lealon Carol Wimpee in Ohio in 1950. Together they moved around the country and finally to San Jose, California, in 1965 where they raised four children. She moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in March 2020 to be closer to her son.

Carolyn was a part-time English tutor and full-time grammar enthusiast. She was unmatched in crosswords and undefeated in Scrabble. She also had a great sense of humor. Importantly, Carolyn was known in many circles for her musical talent: she had a beautiful singing voice, knew by heart hundreds of songs, and thrived on the stage. Music is a gift Carolyn passed to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her son Robert Alan Wimpee and her husband Lt. Col. Lealon Wimpee. She is survived by daughters Marge Ann and Barbara, and son Charles, as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a private ceremony of remembrance in the coming weeks.
