Obituary

Arlene Isabel (Moose) Brewer passed away peacefully in Seminole, Florida in the presence of family members on March 11, 2024, just days before her 92nd birthday. She is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus in His glorious kingdom for eternity.
Arlene was born March 21, 1932, to Chester and Hannah Moose of Harney, Maryland. Their only daughter, she quickly learned to "hold her own" with her six brothers (Mark, Ray, Merle, Frank, Dale and Gene), whether playing ball or jokes on one another. She was a force with which to be reckoned!
Arlene grew up helping her mother prepare their family meals and some of Arlene's own recipes became legendary and are still enjoyed by many. She was an excellent, adventurous cook as she traveled the world and she passed that joy and skill on to her children.
A devoted wife for nearly 70 years, to Vincent (Gene) Brewer (who predeceased her in 2020), Arlene was a true partner throughout his life and 27-year career in the U.S. Navy. After growing up on a small farm, traveling the world was an adventure for Arlene, and she bore the challenges of being an officer's wife with relative ease. She was wonderfully strong, nurturing, patient, fun, encouraging and thoughtful. True to her athletic roots, Arlene became an excellent golfer with many trophies and holes-in-one to celebrate. She excelled in almost everything she did, from arts & crafts to gardening, card playing and sewing, and yet remained humble. A devout Christian, she was active in her church and a model of kindness, charity and goodness. Both sides of her family, her friends and her co-workers looked forward to being in her company and appreciated her smile as well as the twinkle in her eye. Arlene was great fun to be around! She was also a superb letter writer and kept in touch with military friends even decades after last seeing them in person. She was simply the kind of friend, mother, grandmother and wife of which dreams are made.
Arlene spent her later years living in Apopka and then Clermont, Florida, after her husband retired from the U.S. Navy. Duty stations included Miami Beach, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Patuxent River, Maryland; Adak, Alaska; Asheville, North Carolina; Jacksonville, Florida; Nimitz Hill, Guam; Albany, Georgia; from those locations they took trips to a variety of countries throughout the world. Vince and Arlene relocated to their new home in Freedom Square Seminole in 2019; following Vince's death in 2020 Arlene experienced all the levels of care provided there; she and her children were thankful for the compassionate and caring staff, as well as Hospice in 2024.
Arlene Brewer is survived by her three loving children, Marcie Smith (Bill) of Indian Shores, Florida; Barbara Brewer (Mary) of Lewes, Delaware; and David Brewer (Louise) of Woodridge, Illinois; five grandchildren (Meagan Casselberry, Shannon Long, Sarah Ehrich, Lizzy Katz and Cat Brewer) and two great-grandchildren from whom she received great joy, Henry and Nora Casselberry. Arlene is also survived by her youngest brother, Gene Moose (Gettysburg), many nieces & nephews, sisters-in-law and a number of extended family members and friends.
Please join us in person, or in prayerful thought, April 20th, 2024 at 2:00pm as we fondly remember and thank God for Arlene's beautiful life at Christ the King Presbyterian Church, 5400 Seminole Blvd in Seminole FL. (see www.christthekingpca.church ) Her ashes will be interred alongside those of her late husband at a later date in Bay Pines National Cemetery, St. Petersburg.
Arlene's legacy of compassion, charity, devoted friendships, along with service to community, church and family, will survive her and be a model passed on for generations to come. In lieu of flowers, please prepare your favorite recipe of hers or drop her children a card describing one of your favorite memories of her.
