Obituary

Al Carrier of Largo, Florida passed away after a short illness on April 9, 2018. Al was born and raised in Woburn, MA, the son of Armand and Christine (Ring) Carrier. He decided to enlist in the Army, but was subsequently honorably discharged. He decided to move to Brooklyn, New York and hone his skills as a chef for several local restaurants. It was in Brooklyn in 1976 that he met and married the love of his life Mary Lou Zerga. Shortly after they were married, Mary Lou gave birth to a daughter Christine.  Longing for the New England of his youth and a quieter simpler life for his family, they decided to move to Biddeford Pool, Maine and start a business. After years of working for other people, Al wanted to be his own boss. He settled on selling clothing, specifically denim products to the working class people in New England and thus rebranded himself "The Jean King". For over twenty years the Jean King (&Queen) traveled around the Northeast in their big yellow van with their Rottweiler Maxie visiting State Fairs in the summers and setting up shop at a local trading post in the winter. In 1990 Al moved the family to Dover, New Hampshire so that Christine could attend a local private catholic high school. Upon her graduation from college, Al decided he would no longer put up with New England winters and decided to relocate with Mary Lou to Largo, FL to be near his brother Steve. In his spare time Al loved to sit in his computer room listening to music and reconnecting with old acquaintances.  He will be remembered for his robust laugh and his love of a good steak dinner. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou of 42 years, his daughter Christine deVarenne (Greg) and his two grandchildren Ryan and Henry. He was predeceased by his brother Steven.
